Nightmare

There’s somebody coming behind you,

Creepity, creepity, creep.

It’s probably coming to find you

As you go to your bedroom to sleep.

Turn off the light! Scuttle and hide!

Find a good place where you won’t be spied!

Whatever it is, it’s coming inside,

But don’t make a sound and don’t peep.

There’s somebody coming behind you,

Its breath is a whisper of air.

It’s probably coming to find you,

I can hear its tread on the stair.

Don’t move! Don’t run! Don’t whisper or scream!

Keep your eyes shut and pretend it’s a dream.

Whatever on earth this thing is, it would seem

That you shouldn’t go out– don’t you dare.

There’s somebody coming behind you,

Its eyes glowing eerily red.

It’s probably coming to find you

As you shiver and tremble with dread.

It’s sniffed out your hiding place under the mat!

Turn on the light – why, it’s only the cat!

Who in the world would be scared of that!

Skip up the stairs now to bed.
